Description
Biotechnical measure to catch the male codling moth during its flight time. The codling moth is 8 mm long, gray with black stripes and distinct copper-colored patches at the wing tips. The pheromone (sex attractant naturally released by female codling moths) lures male codling moths into a trap with an adhesive floor, on which they become stuck. Thus, the females remain unfertilized and do not lay eggs, from which the harmful larvae (fruit maggots) can hatch. The trap is colored green to avoid attracting beneficial insects, and the sex attractant specifically attracts male codling moths. Based on experience, sufficient infestation reduction is achieved when one trap is used for 3 to 5 trees in the immediate vicinity. There is also a practical retrofit set for the Naturen fruit maggot trap available in stores.
