Lemon Balm, Citronella

Info: Perennial. "Citronella" is a variety with an upright growth in the first year of standing. Its fresh herb smells intensely of lemon. The variety is hardy and has a high content of essential oils.

Care: Sow all year round on the windowsill or from April - June in the open field. Cover seeds thinly with soil and keep evenly moist. In the open field: planting distance 30x30 cm. Thin out plants that are too close.

Usage: Very suitable for drying or using young leaves and shoots. Dried leaves are used for tea or bath additives. Fresh leaves are also used for tea and to flavor oils.

Gardener's tip: Shade summer sowings, as the risk of drying out is very high. The foliage is withdrawn in the open field in winter and sprouts again in spring. Forms runners, so consider root barriers.
