Info: Annual. The Cinnamon Basil, originating from Asia, is pretty to look at, has a bushy growth and decorative deep-red flowers. On the balcony and terrace, it exudes an exotic, pleasant fragrance reminiscent of cinnamon, oranges, and cloves. Growth height approx. 50 cm.
Care: Pre-cultivate in trays from the end of March to May. From the end of May to June, sow directly outdoors in trays. Do not cover with soil (light germinator). The fine seeds can be mixed with sand, making sowing easier. Keep constantly moist with a water sprayer.
Usage: The leaves are versatile for seasoning exotic dishes, salads, and desserts, and for flavoring herbal teas. Do not cook the leaves, use them fresh.
Gardener's tip: Pinching the shoot tips leads to a bushier growth as more side shoots or leaves are formed, ultimately increasing the yield. Basil in general absolutely cannot tolerate waterlogging and, in conjunction with temperatures below 15°C, this leads to rot or plant death.
Sowing: Pre-cultivation: End of March - May; Outdoors: From the end of May - June
Germination: 10 - 15 days at 16°C soil temperature
Location: Sunny, nutrient-rich, and well-drained soil
Harvest: From June until frost; Harvest the young and tender leaves
