Info: "Farinto" is a selection within the variety Blue-Green Winter, which is particularly frost-resistant, ideal for harvesting from late autumn to over the winter. Winter leek is one of the few vegetables, along with lamb's lettuce, that can be harvested in winter from one's own garden. "Farinto" is very high yielding, has dark green foliage, and slender long (about 20 - 25 cm) stems with upright foliage.
Care: Pre-cultivation takes place in a warm environment (greenhouse/windowsill) in trays about 1 - 2 cm deep. Transplant young plants about 7 - 8 weeks after emergence. From May (frost-free), direct sowing in trays outdoors is done. When the young plants are strong enough, they are set on site. Growing recommendation: 14 - 20 plants per m².
Usage: Leeks are excellent for fresh consumption and freezing. Fresh vegetables in late autumn and winter for soups and sauces.
Gardener's tip: Leeks and carrots protect each other against the vegetable fly and are therefore ideal partners for mixed cultivation. Additional water and fertilizer applications increase and speed up the yield.
Sowing: Pre-cultivation: March - April; Outdoor: May - June
Germination: 15 - 20 days at 8 - 10°C
Location: Sunny to semi-shady
Harvest: October - March
